Aims on the knowledge:

1. Ss are able to listen, read, say the words and phrases about Christmas.

2. Ss can use the sentence patterns “First/ Next/ Then/ Finally,…”properly.

3. Ss can sing the song “We wish you a Merry Christmas”.

Aims on the ability:

1. Ss can know how to use the adverbs of sequence in proper situations.

2. Ss’ abilities of listening, reading, speaking will be well developed.

Aims on the emotion:

1. Ss’ consciousness of good cooperation will be fostered.
2. Ss’ interests in western culture will be fostered.

1. Ss can understand and know how to use the adverbs of sequence.

2. Ss can use the target langues to describe their Christmas activities correctly and skillfully.

五、Teaching procedure

Step 1 Warming up

1. Greetings

2. Enjoy and sing the song “We wish you a Merry Christmas”.

Step2: Presentation and Practice

Task1:Can you say something about Christmas

1. Ss say anything they know about the Christmas. Teacher writes down key phrases and sentences on the blackboard. Learn new vocabularies.

2. Work in groups to make a short report about Christmas. Each group chooses a person to do the report. Teacher invites some of them to share ideas.

Task2: What does Helen do at Christmas?

Use the pictures of Check out time but change the passage like this: Hello, I’m Helen. I always have a happy Christmas. First, I go to see Father Christmas. He is old and kind. I like him very much. Next, I make some cards as presents. I send them to all my friends. Then, I put some pretty things on the Christmas tree. I like doing that. It’s great fun. Finally, Christmas Eve comes. I put a stocking on my bed and wait for presents. It’s easy to tick the right pictures.

1. Listen and tick

Tick the right pictures mentioned in the passage.

2. Look and say

Describe Helen’s activities at Christmas according to the pictures.

3. Order and read

Order the activities by using sentence patterns ”First/ Next/ Then/ Finally,…”.Read it together.

4. Think and retell

Try to retell the passage step by step.

Task3: What do you do at Christmas?

1. The teacher gives a model

2. The Ss work in pairs and discuss the topic according to the worksheet.

3. Show their dialogues.

Step3 Consolidation and extension

1. Write and summarize

(1) Finish “Read and write” in Grammar time and check the answer.

(2) Summary: Four steps of spending Christmas.(Grammar time)

First, we buy presents.        Next, we put pretty things on the Christmas tree.

Then, Christmas eve comes.    Finally, it is Christmas Day.

Read the sentences

2. Know more about holidays

T: Do you know other holidays? The Ss have a sharing. Then, the teacher show the Ss introduction of other western and Chinese holidays like Easter, Halloween, Spring Festival and Mid-autumn Festival especially people’s activities and habitudes. Give the Ss printouts to help with their homework.

Step4 Homework

1. Read and recite the sentences in Grammar time.

2. Choose a holiday to write a short passage (Christmas/ Easter/ Halloween /Thanksgiving/ Spring Festival /Mid-autumn Festival/….)
